The Divine Feminine (and The Divine Masculine who supports Her)
Being a kid in the 1970s was awesome, especially when Saturday mornings came rolling around. And it wasn’t just the animated cartoons that I was glued to, but there were a few “real life shows” (as I used to call them) that I absolutely loved…. Land of the Lost was a favorite, which comes as no surprise, given my proclivity towards metaphysics and the supernatural, e.g., parallel universes, time travel, the Sleestack! I thought it was a brilliant and fun show that was ahead of its time given the topics it covered in its campy way, and I loved it. (I find strong parallels regarding the nature of reality between Land of the Lost and one of my other favorite TV shows of the more recent past, LOST).
And before Lynda Carter donned her Wonder Woman costume and Lindsay Wagner became the Bionic Woman to fight the bad guys, there was JoAnna Cameron who played high school teacher, Andrea Thomas, aka, the superhero, Isis.
Isis, the Saturday morning TV show which was later renamed The Secrets of Isis, ran from 1975-1977, and featured a female superhero as the main character. By day “Andrea” was a normal high school science teacher, but when crisis called, she would pull out her hidden Egyptian amulet and gaze up towards the heavens above with arms reaching skyward, and recite the phrase, “Oh, Mighty Isis!” Upon uttering these words, Andrea would transform into the goddess, Isis, having gained an array of superpowers such as physical strength, telekinesis, connection with nature elements, and the power of flight. My kind of hero, or rather, heroine. 😉
Isis often aired alongside Shazam!, a male counterpart to Isis, and together they saved the world, representing two very balanced beings in harmony with one another.
My beloved Saturday morning TV show, Isis, was based on a real figure from ancient Egypt, who served as a symbol for the divine feminine–motherhood, fertility, protection, and power. Her enduring legacy and representation of the divine feminine continues to resonate worldwide. But what does this concept of divine feminine actually mean?
Divine feminine typically refers to a spiritual and psychological archetype that represents the receptive, intuitive, creative, and nurturing aspects of the universe or parts of ourselves. It balances the active, logical, and giving energy of the “divine masculine.” It’s found all over the world, as in “Shakti” as the Hindu term and “Sophia” as the Gnostic Christian word to symbolize this divine feminine wisdom and power.
A very important thing to note here is that the divine feminine is not tied to physical gender, but instead, acts as and defines an equal balancing energy to the divine masculine. Everyone, both sexes, male and female, hold within them, both aspects of divinity-both feminine and masculine.
And you’ve already seen this balancing-act symbol many times over, and are probably already aware of its meaning in a more popular representation ... .the yin yang.
This Chinese concept of duality illustrates how opposite forces are actually complementary and interconnected in the natural world. The circle represents the wholeness of the universe, indicating that everything is a single, continuous entity. The black and white halves represent the Yin/Female part and Yang/Male part. Yin, the feminine part, is connected to darkness, rest, and the moon. Yang, the masculine part, is associated with light, activity, and the sun. The curve shows how these forces flow into each other, and the dots show that nothing is absolute–there’s masculine inside the feminine and vice versa.
Due to external expectations and hustle culture, it’s easy to get off kilter. We live in a world with many demands and get pulled in many different directions. As a result, we become exhausted or sick. Symptoms show up–either physical or mental, or both. Something is out of alignment, and often, from my own observations and conversations with many people of both sexes and from various walks of life…. It’s the divine feminine that is in need.
It’s time to Rebalance.
Shift away or at least slow down from the constant activity and striving. By doing so, you allow yourself to embrace rest and you begin to get unstuck and move into a state of greater health. Here are some tips to help you reconnect to your innate divine femininity….
Be Receptive (Not Controlling):
-Allow flow, not force, to rule the day. And for the caregivers and people-pleasers out there…. Please allow yourselves to receive help, ask for help, and stop trying to put out everyone’s fires or stop trying to be everything to everyone.
Just Be (Not always Do):
-See the value in quiet and solitude, not just in productivity. It’s ok to slow down. Don’t grip the wheel so hard.
Practice Feeling or Intuiting (Don’t just think your way through):
-Trust your gut or your inner voice. Very rarely, if ever, do they steer you wrong. The mind is tricky and wants to keep you safe at all costs, but that may come at a great cost to your health, your potential, and ultimately, your expansion.
Be a Collaborator (Not just a Competitor):
-You’re not alone and you don’t have to do it all yourself. Focus on connections, don’t spiral, and don’t keep yourself on a deserted island.
Some of the strongest people I know and greatly admire ask for help, consult with others, pause before responding, and rely on more than just the facts or their “B.S.”--”Belief System.” They are unified or maintain energetic balance between both their divine feminine and divine masculine parts within…. They are OPEN to both receiving and giving, and are in flow with life.
A dear soul I know recently returned from a sojourn to Egypt and told me that she had brought me back a little souvenir from the land of the Nile, the Great Pyramids and Sphinx. I don’t ever recall mentioning to her that Isis and I had a special relationship from childhood, so imagine my delight and surprise when she pulled out a bookmark with who else on it, but the Egyptian goddess, Isis!
So, folks, and I do mean women and men, whenever you’re feeling off, or emotionally or physically drained, you may need to give yourself a little dose of the Divine Feminine…. OR just simply raise and point your arms and hands up towards the sky, and with all the energy you can muster, speak these three words from the powerful being that you are…. “Oh, Mighty Isis!” ☺️
Til next we meet in the forest….
Love,
Amanda♥️
